Meditational Peace Prayer in Time of War
Brighton & Hove lie next to the Downs. Although the Downs are not high, they give a sense of height, as if one is positioned on top of the world. I visualise a group in prayer might stand on the Downs, sharing this message of intent.
Aware of conflict
We stand together
Watching from above
And so we pray
Aware of peace in the heart
We witness servants going to war
Ants, uniforms, marching in time
Tanks, rockets, searing weaponry
And so we ask for mercy
We see arbitrary victims
Soldiers drinking
Old people in their homes
Laughing babes in the cot
Children departing school
Women shopping…
All will be victims
Aware of conflict
We say
This must end
For just as it arrived
So it must go
Now in prayer
Standing side-by-side
High on a hill-top
Surveying angry skies
Summoning the power of love
We pray together
We hold compassion in our hands
Invoke messengers
Ask for reconciliation and closure
That the forces that unleashed war
May move to shut the conflict away
And all will rest in peace
We open our hearts and our minds
Asking the power of peace to prevail
So that love may triumph
For all involved… Once and for all time
