FUNERAL READINGS: Choose a Reading

On the Train

If things are going to work
We can’t go on forever
So why devise a world
That makes us cry-babies
When fellow travellers
Get off
And leave us far behind

We remain
Train-bound
Still travelling
Still watching
Our fellow passengers
The moving countryside
The towns and streets
And all the rest

Trust me
When I say
This arrival and departure stuff
Happens all the time
A thousand times a day

So just sit back
And stay calm
Enjoy the ride
It's the way
They do things here
And it’s the only way we know

Keep your ticket
For a sometimes wobbly ride
And if your seat feels comfy
Unwind and have faith
No one wants your place
And if you wander
Down the corridor
Just take your time

Understand
That no one likes
A cry baby
A sad or bad traveller
And realise
In time you too
Will leave the train
In time
