Meditation on Death
There is no death. Only a change of worlds.
Chief Seattle
Holding the planet
In our hearts
We touch the spirit
Of the beautiful
Of the beginning
Of the end
And we breathe
The perfection of nature
In the beginning
There are
Little creatures
Babies, chicks
Puppies and kittens
Fresh forms
All celebrating
The delight of the new
Children of nature
We rejoice
The enormity of the wild
The beauty of hills
The song of the sea
And the roar of the wind
Singing and dancing
In great trees
And just as we revel in birth
So we celebrate death
For that which starts
Ends and starts again
The small becomes the great
More becomes less
And birth and death
Are inevitable partners
Always part of the same
The water flows
The energy drifts
Back and forth
From one place to the next
North and South
Birth and death
Being and not-being
There and not here
Dawn and dusk
So that when you see the beauty
Hear the music of the wind
Laugh at the charm of young things
You will know
That the cycle
And the circle
Are as one
And death is as beautiful
As life itself
