FUNERAL READINGS: Choose a Reading

Goodbye

This leave-taking
Is so strange
And yet familiar

It happens all the time
And even if we knew
We’re all surprised

Where did you go?
Contrary to popular belief
You’re not here
Or in the next room
Whatever some might say

The strangest bit
Of all
Is each and everyone
Thinks differently

Some feel
As if you pottered off
As only you could do
While others
Reckon that you’re gone
For good
And that
Is that

And as for me
My view
Is different
Yet again

For me
You’re back where you belong
Strolling the highways
And byways
Of distant dreams
A place
Where goodbye
Makes no odds
And loving sentiment’s
A floating melody
Carried on a breeze
Without end
